Residential Care

What residential care means

Wraysbury House is registered as a care home without nursing, so we provide personal care rather than nursing care: help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, laundry and the ordinary business of the day, from a team who know each resident by name. If someone needs nursing care we will say so honestly and help you look in the right direction.

Residential care is long-term care for older people who can no longer manage easily at home, but who do not need round-the-clock nursing. It covers the everyday things that become harder with age: meals, washing and dressing, medication, mobility and company.

At Wraysbury House that support comes wrapped in ordinary life. Residents keep their routines and their independence, decorate their own rooms, and spend their days however they choose, with a warm team always close by.

Questions about residential care

What is the difference between residential and nursing care?

Residential care supports people with daily living, personal care, meals and activities. Nursing care additionally provides care from a registered nurse for complex medical needs. Wraysbury House is registered as a residential care home and does not provide nursing care. If your relative needs nursing care, we will say so honestly and help you look in the right direction.

Will my relative have their own GP?

Residents are registered with a local GP practice, and we coordinate visits, medication and any specialist appointments on their behalf, keeping families informed throughout.

What kinds of health needs can you look after, and what can you not?

We are a care home without nursing, so there is a real line here and we would rather draw it clearly. We can look after catheter care, diabetes care to a degree, and basic wound care. We are not able to take someone who needs bariatric care, because that needs specialist beds and wheelchairs this building is not equipped for, nor anyone who needs regular oxygen or PEG feeding. If somebody's needs go beyond what we can safely meet, we will say so straight away rather than take them in and move them on later.
